NAQSH III: SAYA
The third and final work in the Naqsh series, and the most reduced. Colour has been withdrawn entirely from the face. The marks are visible at every point, the technique undisguised, nothing softened. What surrounds the face retains colour: pink lotus forms, teal leaves, the blue cord at the throat. The face itself is made only of line.
Saya means shadow, but not the absence of light. It is the word for the impression a presence leaves, the shape that remains on a wall after the body that cast it has moved away. Among the three works, this is the one most concerned with what persists.
